Students with Significant Disabilities
The purpose of this section is to provide support to teachers who work with students who have significant disabilities. These students are typically served in Level III classrooms and often participate in the Iowa Alternative Assessment.
Below are links that will lead to units, including lesson plans that have been developed and can be used when instructing students who take the alternative assessment. The units are on a common template that follow the principals of Universal Design for Learning. This is a five step process that merges the curriculum components of content, instruction, and assessment.
Rules and Regulations: (for adding new units or downloading units for use)
- Teachers will need a user name and password to access templates and devised units. The user name and password can be obtained from Brian Foy, Assistant Coordinator for Low Incidence Disabilities at 563-344-6275 or bfoy@aea9.k12.ia.us.
- Any unit created must be sent to and approved by the Assistant Coordinator for Low Incidence before it is uploaded into the bank of units.
- All units created must be on the uniform template, which can be accessed in the bank of units/lesson plans.
- All units are property of Mississippi Bend AEA and cannot be used for marketing purposes.
