Student Activities

Registrations continue to be accepted for all summer programs!

 

The purpose of the Student Activities is to support the educational process by providing quality enrichment programs for students on a variety of subjects in a safe and supportive environment. Students participating in any of the following programs are expected to follow the Student Guidelines for safety and behavior.


Kid University

Bettendorf Middle School (June 11-15, 2012) 8:30-11:50 a.m.
North Scott Jr. High (June 18-22, 2012) 8:30-11:50 a.m.

Target Group: Students who have completed 2nd, 3rd or 4th grade

Fee: $50 for one class, $75 for two classes and $100 for three classes

Description: Kid University is a summer enrichment program for highly motivated students. In this 5-day program, students can choose up to three one-hour classes such as Body Wonders, Elementary Engineering, Fizz-Bubble-Goo, Professor H20, Spanish, Sign Language and much more. Students enjoy stimulating, activity-oriented classes from experienced, certified teachers.

Time Line: Registration forms will be available on this website beginning mid-February.  Register online, download a registration form and mail it to us, or call the Student Activities office to register over the phone with a credit card.

Davenport North High School: June 25-29, 2012 (5-day program) 8:30-11:50 a.m.
Pleasant Valley High School: July 2-13, 2012 (9-day program) 8:30-11:50 a.m. No class July 4th.

Target Group: Students who have completed 5th, 6th or 7th grades

Fee: (5 day program) $50 for one class, $75 for two classes and $100 for three classes
Fee: (9 day program) $75 for one class, $125 for two classes and $150 for three classes

Description: College for Kids is a 5-day or a 9-day enrichment program for highly motivated students. Students may register for up to three one-hour classes in a wide variety of courses such as Dissection, WW II, CSI, Ceramics, Mythology, Rocketry, Drawing, etc. Students enjoy stimulating, activity-oriented classes from experienced, certified teachers. Students qualify for the program based on ITBS scores OR by recommendation by a teacher or parent.

Time Line: Course catalogs will be available on this website in mid-February. Download a College for Kids catalog, print a registration form and mail it to us, or call the Student Activities office to register over the phone with a credit card.
 

Local Commitment: Each school is asked to identify a College for Kids contact person who will identify students for the program based on ITBS scores or teacher recommendation.

Fee: $60 for the 1st-2nd grade classes and $70 for the 3rd-4th and 5th-8th grade classes
 

Description: Computer Camp is an introduction to computer graphics for students in grades 1st-8th. 1st-2nd grade students will complete projects using TuxPaint, KidPix, and various websites. 3rd-4th grade students will complete projects using advanced skills in TuxPaint, KidPix, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, and various websites. 5th-8th grade students will use the programs Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Elements to create advanced computer graphics and videos.

Summer Spanish

Location/Date: Paul Norton Elementary School Tues./Thurs. June 19-July 19, 2012

Target Group: Grades K-2.

Fee: $80

Description: Summer Spanish is an introductory language class offered at Paul Norton Elementary School in Bettendorf. Students will learn basic greetings, numbers and vocabulary while singing songs, playing games and learning about culture and traditions in different Spanish speaking countries. Parents are invited to attend class with their child at no charge.

After School Foreign Language Classes


Target Group: Grades 1-6

Fee: $60 per each 8-class session

Description: Schools can request the AEA to offer after-school Spanish, French or German language classes to be held in the school building. Classes can be grouped according to age, 1st-2nd graders and 3rd-5th graders, etc. Classes generally last 45-minutes and meet for 8-sessions. Additional sessions can be added to further the language learning.

Time Line: Typically once a school requests a class, it can begin in about 4 weeks.

Local Commitment: School must provide a classroom and pass out registration forms the AEA prints. AEA handles all registration and the hiring of the teacher.
